Madhkote — often spelled Madkot — sits on the banks of the Gori Ganga about 22km from Munsiyari, on the road toward Jauljibi and Dharchula. It's known locally for its natural hot water springs, and for most visitors it works best as a relaxed half-day trip: about an hour there, an hour back, with a genuinely scenic drive in between.

A scenic hour along the river

The road from Munsiyari to Madhkote follows the Gori Ganga most of the way, with views of the Panchachuli range opening up at points along the drive. It's an easy trip by shared cab or hired taxi, and the river itself is a constant companion the whole way down.

What the springs are known for

The hot water at Madhkote is naturally occurring, and locally it's long been regarded as good for easing joint and muscle discomfort. It's a simple, no-frills spot rather than a developed spa resort — worth going in with modest expectations about facilities, and treating it as a rustic, low-key stop rather than the main event of the day.

Best time to go

Madhkote is a reasonable trip in most seasons, but the monsoon months are the exception — like other roads in this part of Uttarakhand, the route can be affected by rain-related landslides between roughly July and August, so it's worth checking local conditions before setting out if you're travelling then.
