Munsiyari's evenings rarely make it into the trip-planning spreadsheets — but a lot of guests say they're what they remember most.

Munsiyari's evenings rarely make it into the trip-planning spreadsheets, but they're often what guests bring up first when they talk about the trip afterwards — not because of any grand plan, just quiet and dark skies.
SamathaStay sits with minimal light pollution around it, so on a clear night the Milky Way is visible directly overhead — a rare thing to get this close to a proper bed and hot water. It's one of those details that doesn't show up in a room photo but tends to be the first thing guests mention when they get back inside.
Evenings here are unhurried by design — a common area with board games, a small meditation/puja room, and a bonfire on request (chargeable, mainly through the colder months). The property has no other houses for 500 metres on either side, so the quiet that starts at sunset tends to last all the way through the night.
Sarmoli and the wider Munsiyari area are historically home to the Johari Bhotia community, once traders on the old routes into Tibet, known today for their woollen handicrafts and distinct local food — Sarmoli itself has built a regional reputation for community-run, locally-owned tourism rather than outside hotel chains.
The property is dotted with hand-painted murals that most guests don't expect from the listing photos alone — a meditation scene facing the Panchachuli range, a hand-painted namaste at the entrance, a Himalayan Monal on the terrace, and a rhododendron (buransh) mural on one of the walls. Small things, but the kind that make an evening walk around the property worth taking.
“Nice place to stay with good views of mountains. Host Pooja is very calm and sweet, always ready to help. Food is awesome with a fair price. Property is located just adjacent to the main village and at a very peaceful location.”
