Birthi Falls is one of the better-known waterfalls on the road toward Munsiyari, and most visitors end up seeing it one of two ways: as a stop on the drive in or out of town, or as a dedicated half-day trip while based at SamathaStay.

On the way, or on its own

If you're arriving in Munsiyari by road, Birthi Falls sits close enough to the route that it makes sense as a break in the drive rather than a separate excursion. If you're already settled in at SamathaStay for a few nights, though, it's an easy half-day out and back — about 30–35km each way — worth doing on a day you're not tackling a longer trek.

What makes it worth the stop

The falls drop through forested hillside, which keeps the spot shaded and considerably cooler than the open road around it — a welcome break if you're travelling in the warmer months. It's also one of the more reliably photogenic stops in the area, especially with some water in the rocks below.

Best time to see it

Waterfalls in this region generally run fullest just after the monsoon, from around September through November, once the heaviest rain has passed but before the flow starts to thin out over winter. Earlier in the monsoon itself, the road out to Birthi Falls can be affected by rain, so it's worth checking conditions locally if you're travelling between July and August.
